Due to a crash I'm looking for some new wheel sets for my Boardman Hydrid Pro.

New ones need to take a disc which I'll use from the existing rims

Whilst I'm looking though I may look for white rims. Any suggestions?

Will also look at black rims.

New Rictchey is £95 from Halfords so my budget will be circa £250

How about just white or black rims I could have laced up to the origanal hubs?

  • yes, if your hubs are good quality is worth reusing them... especially since disc hubs are not the cheapest... rims go from 40 to 120 pounds for the pair (or more), spokes are 20-40 pounds for a set, labor around 50 pounds, you make the maths and see if it makes sense to rebuild for you

  • Check your hubs bearings before reusing. If they are not smooth don't bother. Also consdier the boardman wheels (Ritchey) have no spare so if your freehub body goes your stuffed.

Shimano M785 hub are inexpensive and now not too heavy hubs that are durable. They also have good spares back up.

For £250 you could get XT hubs on Velocity A23 rims and silver Sapim spokes. The A23 comes in white (I must buy some of those) and also there is the velocity deep V in white. Both of these rims come in black too.

Really? Just bought a new freehub body from Halfords this week for my Boardman CX (same wheels as the hybrid). Ordered in store and picked 24 hours later, and came with a free 11mm allen key socket as well. Halfords item code is 124100.
  • Well when I have tried I have been told no spares by halfords. So different stores say different things "that's helpful that halford's".

When I spoke to Halfords the guy was looking through a spares list for the bikes whilst I was on the phone.
  • Been offered set of low mileage rims from a Saracen Urban Hack 2

    Would they be suitable?

I'm on 9 speed and the specs say 10 speed

  • 9 and 10 speed wheels are the same. Just change the cassette.
