Hello all. I have a Scott speedster 20 with bottom bracket "shimano 105 BB - 5700". Can anyone point me in the direction of what tools I will need to remove/tighten this? I have found a shimano BB tool and a shimano hollow tech tool and they both look very different so need advice on which is compatible with my one. Any advice welcome. Thanks. Craig

5700 is Hollowtech II so you'll need the tools for that.
I have the giant Shimano toothed spanner type thing, but find it difficult to keep engaged with the BB cups without slipping and marking the soft aluminium, also the pressed steel handle is uncomfortable and a bit too short to get enough torque.
The socket type tools look a much better bet. You can also use them with a torque wrench. Well, on one side at least.
You'll also need the little star shaped plastic tool for tightening (gently, finger tight) the NDS crank end cap which preloads the bearings correctly before you tighten the crank pinch bolts.
Edit: that Cyclo tool looks better than my Shimano spanner, and it includes the crank cap tool0 -
I have both socket-type and spanner-type tools and neither is perfect. With the socket type, you have to press it on very firmly to stop it slipping so need a pretty sturdy workstand. The spanner types can mark the cups so worth wrapping some tape on the cups first.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

I usually do BB removal / installation with the wheels on the ground and the workstand keeping the bike upright via the seatpost. That way I can heave on it without it going anywhere.0 -

Very good point, Monty. That's why I bought the Tacx tool. It has hardened plastic 'teeth' as opposed to metal ones.
