Hi,

I'm entered into the 4th cat support race for the South Region Circuit Champs at Odd Down on Saturday and forecast currently looks a bit damp.

Just wondered if anyone had any recommendations for tyre pressure?

Cheers!

  • Depends how much you weigh really? Personally im 76KG and on a wet circuit, ive had in 115 front, 125 back (tubs) But i did crash on a hairpin bend but from my own error. I would say if your around my weight, 100 should be sufficient IMO. I also have vittoria corsa CX tubs which aren't rated the best in the wet!!

That's not a question anyone can answer. Pre-ride the circuit and decide for yourself what feels best depending on what the conditions are like. Sunday's forecast looks very rough.
  • Cheers both!
  • Agreed with the above - it's not a "number" that works for all. Well it is a number but you need to find it. Corner hard and see if you like the grip. If you slide a bit, reduce pressure.

If you don't want to fall warming up, use locking your rear wheel when braking as a proxy.
    When a cyclist has a disagreement with a car; it's not who's right, it's who's left.
  • If you have a Smart phone, try out the Vittoria Itire app. With that you can calculate the right pressure for front and rear tire/tub.

The 'recommended' pressure for my tyres, for a person of my weight is 110psi. So I put in 115 rear and 95 front. In wet weather, 5-10psi less seems to do the trick.

  • Depends on the tyres as well unfortunatley (23 or 25mm and I find I run higher pressure in supple tyres like my Vittoria tubs) but a reasonable adjustment is to knock 10psi off your usual.

Too low though and you'll feel like you're bouncing around when you're out of the saddle. It's a good test for the warm up, couple of hard efforts like that and if the front feels squirmy add 10psi.
  • I usually reduce both tyre pressures by 10psi for racing when it's a bit wet.

    Good luck!
