I have been looking into buying a new bike recently and need some advice on what kind to buy and this forum seems the place to be :).

The bike would be used mainly on cycle paths and maybe for commuting in the future but primarily just looking for something that's fun to ride. I also wouldn't like a bike that ties me to paved paths only so don't want a road bike.

I have mainly been looking at the Halfords bikes as it seems they give the best value for money (esp with 10-20% off) and have found a few that seem reasonable. I have a budget of about £400-500.

I have tried to narrow it down to a couple of bikes but I am unsure on the main differences. The Hoodoo is slightly cheaper but weighs (according to the site) about the same as the hybrid which seemed odd. On the other hand most of the reviews about the Hoodoo seem outdated with the new model which I've seen people say is worse (I'm a complete newbie to this kind of thing so I can't really judge for myself).

I also saw that the new Boardman MTB's are due out soon so not sure if it would be better to wait until then and try catch the old models reduced.
