Alright people. Go easy on me, I come from the road...

I am seriously considering changing pedals on my new commuter, from road clipless (SPD - SL) to mountain clipless (SPD), I know about pedals so that isnt a problem, but shoes is what I need help with.

Can someone recommend me a pair. stiff soled, recessed cleat, not so vented (I have a pair of road shoes that I can use in the summer if I get hot) and warmish shoes.

budget, £50-70 and if possible would like a ratchet closure.

    Maybe something like these?

Have owned similar, older pair and they were fine, bit cold at times though.

Or, I know they're slightly out of budget but you might be able to find them cheaper somewhere, these:

Currently own a pair, feel stiffer than my old ones, no venting so feet only really get chilly when it's a cold, wet day and I've not got my sealskinz or any overshoes.

Only really used shimano shoes so can't really comment or recommend anything else I'm afraid.

Those ones would be a good bet. Maybe worth having a look at the touring type shoes, probably won't be as stiff, but I commuted and sportived for a couple of years in a pair of basic Spesh MTB shoes, I don't think they'd be any stiffer than the comparable touring option. Changing to road shoes the only difference in stiffness I've noticed is that the road buzz makes my feet go numb quicker.
