worth upgrading wheels on an old bike?

Hi
I ride a 2007 Trek 1500 slr and am thinking of upgrading the Mavic Aksium wheels.
I have a budget of £500 - £600 but this is nearly as much as the bike cost me in the first place, so I'm wondering -
- is it a case of this bike can't justify wheels worth this much?
- would I notice much difference? (my 10 TT time is 23ish).
Or am I better off saving for a new bike?

Aksiums aren't that much they're nearer £200. Spending that much on wheels on a bike of that price / age seems mad to me, I'd personally look to get a new bike. Guess you need to think through what you want it for and what's important to you and if your current bike fulfils that. Tat money could be put towards new wheels, new frame or new bike.0

Go for it, but you don't have to spend that much, you can always put the wheels on any new bike you get in the future. You would notice the difference in the hills more than on the flat.Smarter than the average bear.0
