Hi
I need to change my rear inner tube, but I have a big problem with my hands,

if I remove the rear wheel, whats the best way of me ensuring that the gearing isn't altered at all.... I hate changing them

    there is not.

just make sure the wheel is refitted as it was before. wheel on ground pressure on seat do up Qr.

  • I think im going to cry.

I have dyspraxia, and changing a front takes me 30 min, even pumping can take 10...........

I am useless with the gears, and have had to have 3 gear services in as many months due to other issues.

    gulp

You need a friend to do it for you then. Should only take 10 minutes at the most. tell us where you are; there should be a kindly soul somewhere close.
  • im based near alfreton (Derbyshire)
the hands have always annoyed me, but there nothing worse when I go to pump the tyre up 3 days after getting it back, and the valve blowing......

Are you saying you don't want to change gear when removing the back wheel?
I can understand that - but the easiest way is to put the chain on the smallest cog and then remove the wheel. You can get away with it 1/2way up the cassette but it gets a bit fiddly...

If you can't easily click through the gears you almost need a quick release lever that releases the cable - thus moving the chain to the smallest cog - that you can then flick back on again after putting the wheel back on ...
  • sorry...
i need to change my rear inner tube, so i need to take my wheel off, change the tube and put the wheel back on.

however i want to do this without messing my gear indexing up, hopefully at all, as im useless at adjusting it.

Ok now I know the issue and your concerns.

in general there should be no need to have the gears reset after changing the rear wheel for a flat as nothing has changed.

But for easy wheel removal the mech should be moved to the smallest cog. to remove the rear wheel the mech will need to be rotated to allow the cassette to clear the jockey wheels on the mech.

re fitting is just the reverse but dont do the Qr up tight ubtill the bike has been put on its wheels and you have loaded the saddle to make sure the axle is fully seated in the drop outs. then do the Qr up and all should be good.

    Sorry - misunderstood your issue!
yup - as Nick says - you don't need to re-index when you take the back wheel out ... gawd if you had to re-index everytime I'd get a singlespeed!!
