Choosing a 29'er

Hey guys,
First time poster here.
I have always loved riding bikes but have until recently really got into it again after work and kids limited my free time and have done a few XC races over the last year.
My bike however, needs an upgrade(Or replacement I should say) Now I am fairly tall at 188cm(6.2"), skinny and have long legs. Some friends of mine suggested going for a 29'er(Hardtail) instead and after having tested one I am convinced this is what I will be going for.
But which brand? What parts of the bike should I focus on? (Frame, gears, fork etc.)
My budget is around the 2500(AUS) mark and I have looked at Giant XTC models, Scott Scale 920 and an Indonesian brand called Polygon(Seem to offer excellent value, but how good is the frame?).
Anyone around my height and frame have any experience with these bikes, or have any other models they would hihgly recomemend?
Thanks in advance,
