Hi all,

I have just moved to Moseley and I am looking for routes around the Lickey Hills. I cycled out there this weekend and did a 41 mile round trip from Moseley, round several little towns/villages and to the Lickey Hills. I thought they were gorgeous - hills to get stuck in to, countryside and perfect for a Yorkshire lass!

Does anybody have any circuit they do around the Lickey Hills? Or any from Moseley really?

Thank you,

Kate :)

  • You can try Rose Hill then pootle over to Romsley/Clent way.
  • Try these two, they both start in Selly Oak, but you can easily adapt them to start from Moseley. They take the quiet roads out of the city and then head into the countryside.

  • St Kenelm's Pass in Clent is always good, as are a number of climbs around there. As far as the Lickeys are concerned, Rose Hill has been mentioned, Beacon Hill (steep) and Beacon Lane (long) are two climbs up to Monument Lane.

I don't really have a circuit that would be much use to you as my rides start from Redditch. You could try joining the Beacon Club for some of their rides. They go from the Black Horse in Northfield.
  • I hadn't thought about riding out that side of town. Thank you for the heads up.

This is where to me Strava comes in handy. You can find segments you are interested in and then check how people on the leader boards got there and back. I've found tonnes of good roads the Sutton Coldfield side of town this way.

Last weekend I rode to Cannock Chase for the first time, I didn't even know where it was let alone how to get there, Strava though gave me a good suggestions though.
  • Thank you very much for this guys - all very helpful and I will certainly be trying out some of the routes/roads suggested. :D

Not quite sure I am good enough for the Beacon Club though :P
  • Have a look at the Beacon web site, http://www.beaconrcc.org.uk/index.html. They used to run a beginners ride on a Sunday morning. If my memory serves me correctly, it was the first Sunday in the month. This was a gentle ride of around 30 miles. If you think that you are not good enough for a club run, this might be an alternative.
  • There you go. They still do the introductory rides.

  • Thank you - I have written the 6th October in my diary. I'll be sure to go along, that is fab!
  • HI, I live in Kings Heath and regularly ride round there, it's great for the hills and the scenery. Also consider going a little further past Clent, Belbroughton etc and round the other side of Kidderminster. Alternatively you can head out towards Warwickshire for flatter rides. Feel free to request a follow on Strava if you want to look at my routes: http://app.strava.com/athletes/698521

BTW, it'll be best to look at April - June, I've started my winter training again now so I'm mostly on my Turbo.
  • Thank you for all the information and routes - fantastic stuff. I just joined Strava so it is all a new ball game for me, but your rides will be invaluable :D:D
