Romin Evo Setup?

I'm currently trying a Romin Evo after unsuccessfully trying the following:

San Marco SPID
San Marco Rolls
Fizik Aliante
Fizik Arione

I have the Romin with both highest points leveled. Specialized tell you to level the middle third but this made me slide forwards all the time.

What do you (if you have a Romin Evo) have yours set up like? I think I like this saddle so would like to get it set up properly (even though I know different people like different setups).

Thanks!

it kicks up at the back and droops at the front so I think their guidance of levelling the middle third is bang on.
  • yeah level the middle third - from the side mine looks like it is pointing down a bit but its not, its just the shape of the saddle

I tried mine with the middle third level but didn’t get on with it and went to try two other saddles before coming back to the Romin with both of the highest point’s level.

I levelled mine from nose to tail straight down the middle but felt the same (sliding forward) I'm now tipping the nose up 1/4 turn at a time and trying out on a 20 mile ride so far I'm on 3/4 turn nose up
  • Level the middle third, feels good to me!

Thanks for the replies guys - if I level the middle third how can I prevent sliding forward?

  • Sometimes 'level' isn't quite 'level' if you don't have the right seat post:

eg. this type of clamp adjusts in increments

whereas something like a Thomson inline style clamp doesn't

I've got a Deda RS01 which is a two-bolt setback post. I can't stand the ones where you can't get it quite right :P

I've found with my Romin that the way to stop sliding forward is to move the saddle forward rather than adjust the angle. Not saying this is the solution for everyone, as it may have other impacts on your position but it works for me.

Try leaning your body forwards and putting your hands out in front of you without sticking your bum out behind you. You'll fall fowards.

The same goes for saddle position. If your saddle is too far forward relative to the BB you will be effectively falling forwards off the front of the saddle. Try moving your saddle (and bars if necessary) backwards instead. Sounds counter intuitive but it works.

That's what I already do. I've got a big setback seatpost with the saddle slammed all the way back. Works much better than it being forward.

I tried the saddle with the middle third leveled just now down the driveway and it felt really good - I didn't fall forward this time (which was probably because the first time I tried it I had moved the saddle forward)!

Can't wait to try it on a ride again

  • i always had my romin evo level nose to tail, i didn't feel comfortable with a level center and i quite prefer having a slight hammock or dip to sit into if you will.
  • I've had my Romin set slightly nose up too but I found that was given me pressure issues on my "soft tissue". Trying a Toupe now as I reckon the flatter profile may be better suited to me.

Thanks for all the help guys - I've levelled the mid-third now and it felt really good. It places quite a lot of weight on my hands but seems more comfortable than completely level :D
