Adding silicone gripper to cycling tops?

I hate tops with no silicone grippers as they always ride up. My local clubs top unfortunately doesn't have them. I have made a suggestion, but they said it will be 2 yrs until they re-look at it. Is there any way to retro fit this silicone?

Cheers

You could try tent seam sealant along the hem, when dry it has a rubbery / sticky finish, should stop it riding up.

Get gripper elastic from a sewing place/ebay and stitch a few strips in.

I would avoid anything that isn't designed for clothing, bathroom sealant etc.. Probably not great for the skin.

    ^^^this

sealants often have fungicides in them, plus some don't cure neutral, they can carry on releasing acid for ages

also you need one that cures soft and grippy, there are some platinum cured ones used for prosthetics that do this, ecoflex gel for instance, not sure if you can get it in uk, but there must be other brands

I've just found a product online called 'sock stop' which is intended to be applied to socks e.g. crocheted baby booties to prevent slipping. It seems to be a made for clothing silicone gel, which dries sticky. Reviews on amazon seem good. Have just ordered some for my new cycle top. Will let you know how I get on.

Just don't wear the club jersey if its that pants.

Tell them you would love to wear one when they get decent kit if they moan.

  • Load up your rear pockets with Pump, spare tube etc. That'll keep it from riding up!!

    How did it work?
    What have you learned?
I also am looking for a way or keep my shorts from sliding down when MTB riding.
    Thank you.

I’m the opposite, I’m allergic to the silicone grippers, I have to turn the hems inside out, if they’re there.

Just sew lead fishing weights in the hem. Sorted.

Apply a think layer of honey on to the bottom of the jersey before every ride. Watch out for bears though.

I've used sock stop on some shorts.

Works really well at keeping them in place. The down side is that rather than doing dots I spread it on the elastic cuff. It's seeped through the material and can partly be seen on the other side. As I bought white sock stop it looks a bit like sweat salt stains.

Still, revived a £90 pair of bibs that I use for shorter training rides
