I heard sad news today that Peter Burgin has died. He offered an amazing tubular tyre repair service. I'm going to have a go at repairing them myself but have no idea where to buy the thread, backing tape, needles, patches etc. I guess the patches are the same as used for inner tubes but could be wrong. Does anywhere else offer this service?

Two guys now offering tub repairs. The first url is Steve Vaughan, who apparently bought all the stock, equipment etc off the Burgin's to make sure a tubular tyre repair service continued

as above, a couple of others have started advertising repair service, but diy is simple enough...
thread, dacron is fine, i find a light colour helps see where you're going... http://www.troutcatchers.co.uk/acatalog ... ml#SID=215
a leather needle is good, ideally you should use the holes of the original stitching, i use a non-slip thimble too
depends which tubs you use, but if they're veloflex/similar a worn out one can be 'stripped for spares', carcass can be used to make boots for large cuts, tube can be re-used or make patches, might as well keep the basetape although gluing a whole one straight would be tricky
you can get packs of rema tiptop tt04 patches and rema or vittoria vulcanising fluid will work, or you can make your own patches from an old latex tube

for regluing basetape, barge cement is a favourite...

alse, you need some talc to dust the tube when putting things back together
i find it best to save up 3-4 tubs needing repair then do them all at oncemy bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny0 -
All of the above does reconfirme my recent decision to stick with clinchers as a good one0

...and therefore depriving yourself of the sublime feeling of a 'roaring' tub on smooth tarmac, but instead trundling around on harsh hosepipes?Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0 -
