Guys, I notice the tredz seem to have a fair few bikes available up to around the £500 mark, well going up to the £509.99 Cannondale Trail SL4. I've been looking for some time now for my first MTB and keep putting it off because it all gets so confusing when you read different peoples views, opinions and advice. I'm at a stage now where I'm thinking I'll just take the plunge, but wanted to put this out there one last time. I'm looking at tredz and evans cycles and have set a spending limit of £500. Is there anything there that would stand out - going as far up in price as the aforementioned Cannondale Trail SL4 at £509.99?

The Voodoo Hoodoo (Halfords) and Rockrider 8.1 (decathlon) are both better for similar money.

Thanks 'The Rookie'.... The two bikes that always come up. I know that should tell me something and I am now starting to come around to the idea of the VooDoo HooDoo, but there's just something not quite there for me. I'd love to find one myself that I post and for someone to say "that's pretty damn good for a first MTB in that £ range" (or something along those lines).

I like the Carrera Kraken, but struggling to find one new and having looked at Tredz most recently, there are a few that I'd like to think were reasonably good options and for someone to knowledge to say "yes" (with honesty of course) :

I'll keep looking, but I want to find one that's right and fairly decent, as I am fed up with borrowing a bike now!
