I was offered the chance to buy some Shimano 105 5700 STIs by DanielMcD (Daniel McDylan) on this thread. I made a Paypal payment, using the Paypal Goods and Services payment method. The payment was refunded within a few hours, but held as 'pending' for 3-5 working days by Paypal.

I queried the refund of the purchase and received the following reply from DanielMcD:
i'm really really really sorry.

i'm going to be honest, i was scamming you. paypal have put my accout into negative balance and i fear that theyre going to send a collections agency to my door.

i've tried refund you your money

im so sorry

Enough said!

    I always make Paypal purchases using the Goods and Services method, rather than using Paypal Gift payments. I use the online Paypal Fee Calculator to calculate the total cost of price plus fee so that I can send the correct amount of money.

    I have already raised a claim with Paypal, so we'll see if their Buyer Protection is more useful than the proverbial chocolate teapot.

    It seems as though I'm in a similar position having agreed to buy "Daniel's" brake calipers. If I don't get my cash back I might try to track him down personally so that I can..........
