finally got round to purchasing a park tool bbt9 to remove and install external BBs

going to swap my ultegra out for a sram crank

could someone please recommend what grease to use when installing the bb??

i have a tub of white lithium grease will this do? although its quite old and has specs of dust in it so was just going to buy a new tub of something.

something multipurpose would be good and suggestions of what else the stuff can be used for would be ace

thanks guys!!

Generally your bearings are sealed in the BB, so I just apply stacks of either white lithium or similar to stop any water getting past during bad weather or through puddles. For me it is just a matter of better to be safe than sorry

on the bb threads, anti-seize is good, especially if there are dissimilar metals
my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny
  • from the videoes ive watched you apply grease to the inside of the bb shell of the frame and do the spindle for non drive side crank and to inside and around bb.

im looking for brands name and mode and links to products at a good price would be good.

although if lithium grease is the stuff ill just use it....

what anti seize products are there? you say 'or similar' what are the similar products and are some better than others

for example this guy has gloopy green stuff

If it's meant to move, grease it. If it's not meant to move, copper slip.

As per Flasher - 100% correct.

For moving, normal moly from the local motor factor will do fine, copperslip is slightly abrasive so a no - no for moving parts.

For the b/b: slap loads of it everywhere all over the threaded area - it will do no harm at all, the excess will come out and be taken off when you clean the bike.
