Tubeless tyres

Hi all.

I've switched to tubs for my new CX bike which will be used mostly for road/track/trail riding. The question is, when undertaking a longer ride (50 -100miles) should I take a spare tyre or any spare sealant and applicator or just go as is?

I'm running Stans sealant in there at the moment, so this should be enough, shouldn't it?

Thanks all.

  • Or rephrasing it: will I puncture?

  • I know the sealant will fix small punctures supposedly without me even realising, it's just in case I get a larger hole, do I fix it or replace the tyre I suppose is what I'm asking. But as the tyres are quite large, I could do without having to carry one around.

Just wondered if anyone had had a ny experiences to share.

My experience with tubeless/Stans sealant on my MTB is that you won't get pinch-punctures and that sealant is very effective against sharp debris - in over 12 months I've only had a single puncture due to glass which sealed eventually. I'll be looking to run tubeless on my CX bike over winter, but I'll stick to tubs for racing. This includes plenty of riding on rocky / rooty / sharp flinty / thorny trails with pressures as low as 10psi. For trail /roadside repairs simply carry a tube, pump etc and do a conventional repair.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • I have ridden tubeless road tyres for the last 2 years and have had many holes seal up quickly with the Stans but I still carry a tube and CO2 with me on rides just in case I get a slice in my tyre which stans will not be able to seal or get a large enough puncture (which I did once) that stans is not able to seal it.

spare tube a CO2 here too.

Tubs or tubeless. You talk about both. But they're different.
