So, who is doing it?

  • Having only walked it....

    You've got to be insane!

Besides surely you'd have to dismount and carry the bike on most of the accents? Especially wormside/inglebrough ( the second two) ?
Although I'd love to descend penygent on a proper MTb on a dryer day. Not those silly cx bikes.

Come to think of it isn't a MTb more suitable anyway? What's the rules?

Cross bikes only...and a hearty appetite for having a laugh. It is one of those events, that, if you 'get it', you look forward to it. If you don't, you find ways to ridicule those that do 'get it'. Don't ask for an explanation, just give it a go next year.

The event in Oz looks great.

You'll struggle for clearance with most road bikes just swapping out wheels and tyres but I have done it in the past (I got bosses brazed on for canti brakes though and it was pre sti days so I put bar end shifters on the bike). If you have something with decent mud guard clearance then you should be OK for a bit of fun at the local cross series.

I'm just ordering my first proper cross bike and doing the winter series for the first time in 18 years. Definitely want to ride the 3 Peaks one year. Is it run on a ballot system now though?

Cross bikes have a different geometry to a standard road bike, more stable for the off road sections, more clearance for the wider tyres, just swapping out the wheels and tryes wouldn't work, a road bike has steeper angles and a shorter wheelbase.

Not sure if it's a ballot system to get in, but if I remember correctly I needed to give a kind of cycling CV for my first entry, don't know if you still do.
