Hi,

I'm thinking of getting one these shiny new Canyon seatposts. Has anyone used one on a non-canyon bike?

Also, does anyone know what the minimum and maximum insertion points are? It doesn't say so on any Canyon literature. It just says "make sure you adhere" to them!

Thinking it may be a decent upgrade to my pretty stiff Isaac frame.

  • Hey, the post is 350mm, the minimum is approx 145mm and the max insertion is 255mm (100mm from the bottom of the post). It also has a setback range of +10/-2 and a saddle tilt range of +5/-5.

I use mine on a canyon so can't comment on using it on an Isaac frame. It's noticeably more comfortable than the Ritchey Vcls post that came stock and it looks fantastic. Its not light though.
  • mwoolly, I've been thinking of getting one too, but have been wondering about the sizing. Is that minimum measured from the underside of the seat rails or somewhere else? On my bike I have 155 mm from rail underside to the top of the tube and would like to make sure there's enough space to get the springy bit out in the open.
  • Thanks,

My bike is borderline (it's a fairly flat top tube), I assume the benefits reduce the less the seat post is showing.

It seems the type of thing where a demo post would be a definitive answer.

    Hmmmm....

  • I ordered an ultimate CF SL 9.0 about a month ago (for a January delivery) with the normal VCLS seatpost but I'm starting to wonder if I should have gone for the VCLS Post 2.0 - it was only £67 more and looks pretty cool! I'd already maxed out my budget when ordering, but I've since had time to forget the initial outlay and think of other things to buy!

Has anyone else bought one? is it worth the extra money?
  • I have now bought one, but it's still sitting in the bike shed not on the bike. Am generally riding my touring bike more at the moment, so will report back when I put it on and actually go for a ride on it.

  • VCLS 1.0 here on different bike and it's a standard 27mm diameter. So as 2.0 and 1.0 are interchangeable on Canyons
Should be OK if you have a 27mm seat post hole in your bike!
  • So, I went ahead and bought the VCLS 2 seatpost (one on ebay clinched the deal). I was a bit worried when I got it, as the minimum insertion point was about 3-5mm higher than my old seatpost was situated (I have an Isaac frame that has a relatively flat top tube). Well, I thought i'd give it a go and it turns out that I actually preferred the extra saddle height (which I don't quite understand, as I thought i'd spent years perfecting my saddle height!).

    Anyway...

After a couple of short rides, I can't say I notice a massive difference initially. However, I am noticing road buzz at the front of the bike through the bars. I've never really noticed this before, because the seat post is eliminating the buzz at the rear of the bike.

So to conclude, it does work (IMO), but I don't think it's worth the £220 asking price (what is?). I was in need of a new seatpost, and considering the cost of a high-end bike £200-odd that does offer a tangible benefit maybe isn't so outrageous.

Based on the way it's designed I expect there should be some flex in the post when you put your weight on it so it's likely the measured height when you set it up would have to be higher than your previous saddle position in order to be in the same position after putting your weight on it.

incidentally I've got a Canyon CF SL 9.0 on order with a VCLS 2.0 seatpost as an optional upgrade. There are two versions available. One with 2/-10 offset and one with 25/13 setback. I've ordered the 25/13 but I'm not entirely confident this was the right option. Given my comment above I'm wondering does the saddle also settle backwards a little which will mean this seatpost is likely to give me too much offset.

Can any of you shed light on the position either of the VCLS 2.0 posts gave you compared to a standard seatpost of X offset?
  • TBH, I expected there to be some noticeable flex. But I can't detect any. It may be because I have as little seat post showing as possible.

I think it's definitely a worthwhile option on a new canyon bike.

Regarding the offset, it doesn't seem much different to what i had before. However, I don't know which post I have as I got it on ebay.

  • I've used the first version on various bikes for the past few years, definitely one of the better carbon posts.
I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles
  • I'm now looking to sell the VCLS 2.0 post. Had a good deal on a Trek Madone with Di2 and annoyingly, it has a proprietary seat post thing.

I can confirm the post works as advertised. Looking for £80...

Aren't these posts a common denominator on the cracking of SLX frames?
