Having read a couple of threads on handlebar failures it got me thinking about mine so I've taken them off and discovered this

There is a noticeable ridge most of the way around the bar where I've probably overtightened then (but only to what is written on the stem (9-10Nm)). I have a bad habit of this :(

Does anyone think it could be an accident waiting to happen or am I being a cyclo-hypercondriac ?

The bars are 5 years old, at least...

There would need to be marked scoring, right through the anodising before I'd be worried
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

It's not just paint rub, there is an indentation most of the way around the bars from the stem face plate.

I think I might change them for peace of mind- it's just a PITA job to do..

Go and test them at 30mph on some decent no bollox potholes.

If you hadn't taken them off to look at them you would have been happy with them as they were, If they were mine I would just use 'em. :)

Right I'll leave them for now. Thanks for everyone's input.
