What' happened to the annual summer tabloid shocker stories?

Until a few years ago, the British summer was not complete without a mid-summer shocker story
in the Sun or some other less-than-illustrious daily journal about some dysfunctional behaviour,
usually involving Brits on holiday, e.g.

- woman goes to Costa del sol for two weeks and leaves kids at home with only a can of baked beans

- man goes on 72 hour drinking binge in Portugal and leaves kids in car.

- etc.

Wot's.. I mean what's happened? Is anti-social behavior of this type going the way of white dog poo?

I guess these sorts of thing are sadly becoming more the norm so they are not the sensational headlines they once were
"Arran, you are like the Tony Benn of smut. You have never diluted your depravity and always stand by your beliefs. You have my respect sir and your wife my pity"

They have somewhat lost their shock factor, besides there has been some real news this summer.

Todays main news story seems to be:
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2409073/Walkie-Talkie-building-melts-car-reflecting-sunlight-concentrated-spot.html
Please note I do not buy or even usually read this bit of rubbish, however having seen the article on the Beeb this morning I knew if I went on the mail website it would be might easy to track down
Life isnt like a box of chocolates, its like a bag of pic n mix.

The same architect, Rafael Vinoly, is reponsible for the Vdara building in Las Vegas:

'Then he smelled an odor, and realized it was coming from his head, where a bit of hair had been scorched..."Yes, we call it the death ray," he says they told him.'
