Modifying gravity dropper clones?

I have one of those ebay tmars posts thats a clone of the gravity dropper turbos. It's fine, but it only has up and down positions, and I'd appreciate a middle one for pedally situations where a bit of drop would help but I don't want to unleash the uber-gnarr.
I gather it's possible to add an extra position, but has anyone here actually done that, or seen a guide for how to do so?

I have a Tmars dropper post, but mine already has 3 positions. Have taken it apart to grease parts up so I've seen the insides. Not 100% sure if it weakens the seat post, but if I was thinking to add another position all I would do is drill another hole.
