I've just changed Cassette from 12-25 to 11-28 and its obvious my chain is now too short. the Chain/Drivetrain has done approx 500 miles.

1. Can I extend the existing chain or do i need to buy longer?
2. I can't find any 105 pins for 10 Speed, so does this mean my chain is now scrap?!? :x

Thanks in advance
Stuart

After 500 miles your chain shouldn't be too worn.

    Connecting pins are available, eg.

Alternatively (and for me preferably) use KMC Missing Links. Do you have a spare bit of 10 speed chain you can add?

    ^^^what he said^^^

If you need 5 links of 105 I can give you some for the cost of postage. I keep all my off-cuts ;)

It's easier to just get a new chain and keep the old one in case you switch back, or you end up with a load of pins in the chain, which aren't cheap anyway.

Buy new chain and new quick link. Shorten new chain for new cassette and use spare links from new chain plus pair of quick links to extend old chain.

Buy third chain. You now have three chains to rotate in order to keep drivetrain wear to a minimum (which is what you should have been doing already!) and it hasn't cost you anything more than it should have barring the extra quick link.

KMC it if you want - no problem at all.

New chain it if budget allows.

Use off cuts if you want joined by KMC/existing links - no problems at all with that either.
