Hi all.
I'n new to the forum, and just after a few views/recommendations really.
I'm cycling from Bowness to Newcastle on saturday, staying over just outside Hexham, near the Twive Brewed Inn.
So just wondered if anyone had done this route? And is the 72 sustrans cycle route the best way to go? I was thinking of picking up the B6318 just after Carlisle instead?
Any good pub recommendations too along the route?
Thanks for any replies!

Done it several times, including from whitehaven in one day the other week:

You join the B6318 at birdsowald anyway, what I would suggest is seeing as you are staying at Once Brewed, you just continue along the B6318 till the Old repeater station and then turn right to take you back down to the 72. This avoids you droping down to haltwhistle and then having to climb upto vindolanda which is the most awkward part of the whole route.
Enjoy it, its a good route.
For information there's a great website run by one of the susrans rangers all about the route: http://www.cycle-routes.org/hadrianscycleway/index.html0 -
That's great, thanks for the tip!
Is the old repeater station easy to spot/sign posted?0 -

Its quite easy to spot, to be honest any right turn off between Once Brewed and Walwick on the b6318 will bring you back down on to the 72 route. This should be the second right once you leave once brewed after about three miles, but the first right will also get you back down to the Stanegate which is signposted for the 72.0 -
Note: You only want to follow the road from the old repeater to the first crossroads, then turn left on to the stanegate, you can then follow the 72 signs to take you into hexham and beyond.0
