Best sub £1200 Hardtail 29er advice please

After completing my first MTB based triathlon on my full suspension Trek Fuel EX6 I reckon there is room for serious improvement in both my MTB fitness (normally a roadie but use MTB on forest track and short technical downhill) but also choice of MTB. This was a XC MTB course and I'm reckoning a hardtail will be much more suited to this type of terrain....? Also would prefer 2x10
Can the MTB fraternity offer me some buying advice for said XC MTB'ing....

I've just picked up a Scott Scale team via CTW for £920. Forgetting the broken chain its a vast improvement speed and weight wise over my full suss. Weight about 12kg could get lighter obviously but I'm not complaining

Its medium. i'm 5'11" short legs tho' at 32" which is why I went medium.
