Checkout the sales of 2013 bikes and you will get a good deal. Test ride a few bikes you like the look of after reading the reviews on them and checking out their specs. Then buy the bike you like the look and feel of. My road bike was 22.5% off in the sales and there are MTB's with similar discounts around. Generally you get a better bike for the money as around £900 bikes are reduced to around £750 if you look around, good luck0

If you post links you'll get more replies. Most people don't memorise spec.I don't do smileys.

Marin - rubbish fork.
Cannondale - discontinued.
Trek - average spec - as long as the available sizes fit.
Both Specialiseds are pretty mediocre.
Scott is only available in giant size.
I'd forget 29er and get this

Or if you really want big wheels, save a packet - probably as good as your links and half the price.

i have a few small bike shops local

Go and test ride a few. Of the ones you like the ride and look of checkout the spec's / reviews to help make your final decision. You need the right bike for you0 -

From your lis of links; there is a stand out bike : The Trek Mamba has a great frame and the Rock shock forks are excellent. the rest of the equipement is not that bad; and the brakes can be updated later. I like the Trek Mamba or for a bit more money look at the Trek Cobia or Grand Canyon 5.9 AL0 -

The XC32 forks? Aren't they the up to date equivalent of the Dart models?
If so they are not excellent at all.0 -
The Mamba does have the 'least worst' forks of the lot, although not much in it between the XC32's and the XC30's and 28s on the Marin and 'dale.
Nothing as good as the Recon's on a £550 RR 9.1Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
