  • why do you need to know?

They're most likely to be Races, Lasers or CX-Rays which are easy enough to tell apart.
  • i think the spokes are a little butted, im not sure..i just took a look and feel the end of the spoke...
by the way, are sapim spokes more expensive than the DT swiss double butted spokes? im just curious..thanks

Hoops never came with Olympics, so unlikely.
  • Its a built wheel sir, is my setup ok?

Of course it is. Why wouldn't it be? Nowt wrong with Sapim spokes. The CX-Ray is regarded as one of the best bladed spokes out there, and the Sapim Super Spoke is about the lightest spoke you can buy.
  • Thanks for the reply sir...actually the seller declared it was a titanium sapim but when i checked in the internet, titanium sapim doesnt exist, anyway its ok with me the spokes were not Ti

Ti spokes aren't really desirable, very flexy and prone to breaking. Pillar and Marwi do make them, but not something to get too excited about IMO.
  • I see, i really dont know what kind of sapim spokes are in my wheelset..i bought it as second hand. i can only see the sapim name engraved on the tip of the spoke, how much usually is one set of sapim spokes?

It depends, Lasers are about 80p each, Race are about £1 each, CX-Rays are about £1.50, but notionally only sold in packs of 20, Super Spokes are about £4 each. So between £50 and £250 for a set of wheels.

They're most likely to be Lasers, at the end of the day it doesn't really matter frankly!

Don't mind it. Prefer it to "mate" when it's someone you've never met.
  • Oh ok, noted mate
  • Are you researching if this guy is a legitimate target, by judging his honesty?
Not sure if lying about spokes makes him fit into Harry's code.

FWIW, Just Riding along sell spokes (including CX Rays) in singles. You do pay for the convenience mind you.

Not sure how useful this is for the OP as it's not entirely clear why he's asking.

Hence 'notionally' only sold in 20s ;-)
  • Yes, I know, you already said. Hence my post informing the OP of one of only a handful of places you can buy singles if required. ;)

Fair enough, if they're in good nick that's not bad, but not great either, the Olympic is a reasonably old rim, the Crest is wider for a similar weight. That said, tubeless ready tyres fit more easily on Olympics.
  • How about if i change it to mavic 717 rims? is that ok?

Thats fine, if you want to. AFAIK if its an original Hope rim/wheel combo you'll be on Sapim Race. If you want to change the rims then Stans have some 355 (very similar to crest) and Arch (Slightly beefier) rims on sale. Both great rims (but only in white for 32h). I am assuming you're US based of course. Which might not be the case!

It's fine as it is. Why replace something that you've just bought?
Go out and ride the damned thing.
  • Why would you do that? You bought the wrong wheels in the first place. If you really want to change, then sell the set and buy a different set.

If you do change the rims on the wheels, you need to have very similar E.R.D (effective rim diameter)

That would be a downgrade - narrower, heavier, harder to run tubeless and IME weaker.

The Olympic is a great rim, it's just a few years old. I don't know what prices are like in the US, so actually they may have been storming value! I'd not be changing them, irrespective of spokes they're a really solid XC wheelset.

How do you know that? :?
  • To the man who likes to quote but not show who he's quoting ;-)

To be clearer - Why would you do that? You bought the wrong wheels in the first place if you are wanting to change for real reasons, not just because you think you need to change.

Never really noticed that, it's because I always reply in 'quick reply', and just copy and paste what I'm quoting, and manually type the [ quote ] bits, less faff than having to delete parts, like I've now had to do.

But he asked about changing to a competitor brand's wheel of the same ilk - ie a narrow, lightweight XC rim. It just so happens that IMO the Mavic offering is a significant downgrade compared to the Stan's one, doesn't really make it the wrong purchase. If he'd asked about changing to EX729s they may be the wrong rims.

yes its an original hope hub, what do you mean 355? im still new to mtb's..i want to change the rims either ztr crest or mavic 717, here in the philippines, stans rims available are crest, olympic, alphine and podium..il still ask if arch rims are on stock..
