freezing HR signal

I'm using an Edge 500 with a Bryton HR strap (I broke the screen of my rider 35 and couldn't get it fixed) and this worked really well so far but lately the HR signal freezes after a while on the bike. The first hour or so it works well but then reading seems to get stuck at a certain HR and will only update once every 5 minutes or so with the reading often being off. I have the feeling it happens more often under sweatier conditions but I have not tested this extensively.

Anyone know what could cause this? If it's a problem with the strap I have to return it quickly cause it's still under warranty I think.

    Battery?

    One other thing, which is rather weird, is if I accidentally wear my garmin HR strap upside down its like you say... I'm not kidding.

    Forgot to mention that I did change the battery but the problem persists...

    That's interesting what you say about the wearing it upside down, I think I'm wearing it in the same way as before but I could try turning it upside down to see what happens...
