This years edition - the 9th - of the Anfractuous 200km and Nyctophobic 100km Audax are on Saturday, Oct 5. The events start from the Community Centre at Chalfont St Peter and route west through the Chiltern Hills and around the Newbury Downs

Audaxes are club events rather like sportives without the timing chips. The emphasis is on completing the route and having a great day, but if you want to get a move on, then that's fine too. For 200km events, faster riders get round in about 8~9 hours, though 10-12 hrs is more typical with the Lantern Rouge at 13.5 hrs.

The Anfractuous routes from Chalfont to Benson, Goring, Wantage, Lambourne, Pangbourne and back to Chalfont, whilst the Nyctophobic routes from Chalfont to Benson and back, with “café control” stops at Benson, Wantage and Pangbourne.

The routes are reasonably challenging with a good mixture of fast minor roads and country lanes, wooded climbs and rolling hills. This year there are two versions of the Anfractuous, the officially hilly AAAnfractuous with ~2900m ascent and the less hilly but equally challenging Less Anfractuous with ~2400m ascent.

Entry is £6 for AUK/CTC members, £8 for others (incl. AUK day membership).
