Buyer beware.
Sounds like you got exemplary service?I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles0 -
I don't get this.Sounds like you were treated more than fairly.
Buyer beware....theirs no such thing as a freebie.let them keep the tat and get 250 quid knocked off instead.0 -
That's brilliant service on a £299 bike, I'm going with Halfords for my next bike!0
-
Sounds like pretty good service to me too. I doubt they've made any money at all from selling you that bike now.0

They had no choice as it was less than a year old. Exemplary would have been fixed in the first place, a ride around the carpark is not a test ride and to replace all the parts displays a clear lack of knowledge. (in my book).Don't call me sir I work for a living0 -

So the Cytech guy charged you £15 to "diagnose" the problem, but didn't see fit to grease the bottom bracket for you, something that would have taken 5 minutes and cost pennies to do? Yet you complain that Halfords replace the wheel, chainset and cassette for new AND refund your £15 ? :?
By the way, you may need to learn how to maintain your bikes, else it could prove costly as I am sure that Pedalon will charge you to service the bike after the initial 6 week check....0 -
Halfords - the good... They said on the phone they would courier a bike from Oxford to MK for me to have a look at.
The bad - 7 days after dispatch they had no idea where the bike was.
The bad - 2 months later, the bike is for sale on their shop floor in MK, never called me to tell me it had arrived.0 -

Large Company not caring about the individual it seems, Did you challenge them about it?Don't call me sir I work for a living0 -
Seems you had good service from Halfords. They get slated enough,so good service should also be reported.
Thing is people tend to post when it,s bad service.Shame really.Dulce et decorum est Pro patria mori0 -

In one way your correct, saying that it took two trips and I will not use them again owing to what I believe to be a lack of knowledge.
Everyone can make their own mind up as to what they call good and acceptable service.Don't call me sir I work for a living0 -
OK, generally crappy to be honest, but what sort of test ride were you expecting?
I can bet you that any LBS would do just the same. They simply don't have the time to go for a nice 20 mile jolly to make sure everything sounds great. Also I bet most customers wouldn't be happy if they had taken their bike on a nice long ride!
As for being screwed with being out of warranty, if you reported the fault while still in warranty then they still have to fix the issue even if the warranty lapses.0 -

I dont get this - why the second trip? If the cytech mechanic greased it and this fixed it, why did you go back to Halfords and give them your bike again?0 -
I've also had the month from hell with halfrauds but all resolved in the end after contacting customer services who were outstanding! Three stores screwed me all in different ways (long story) but I've never known a customer services to be so good.Giant Propel Advanced Pro 1 Disc 2020

They didn't fix it, they greased the bracket. Then informed me it was not the pedals, it was the bike as mt OP said mate.
Parts wear out you know, particularly if poorly maintained. Might explain the clicking after a year of riding. You got lucky - most LBS' wouldn't have been as generous as Halfords were. Had no problems with Halfords (bought my best bike there) but my LBS causes me nothing but aggro, I really want to support them but their service is appalling and overpriced. YMMV.0 -
So what was the actual fault then, or am I missing something?0

OP gets excellent service... Complains. There's a meme here somewhere...English Cycles V3 | Cervelo P5 | Cervelo T4 | Trek Domane Koppenberg0

So I would be complaining about the Cytech mechanic - he took your £15 and told you the cause was something that it obviously wasnt, failed to fix it and didnt find what the cause actually was.
Whereas Halfords chucked everything at it, fixed it AND refunded the money you spent on the numpty cytech mechanic. And they were right to suggest he was wrong, because he obviously was...
Am I wrong or crazy? Sounds like a thumbs up for Halfords and good reason not to go to Pedalon if that was where the cytech mechanic came from...0 -
Rulebritania wrote:it developed a clicking. So I returned it to Halfords who then replaced the bottom bracket for an upgraded SHIMANO under warranty for free
so you then took it to a Cytech dealer where...Rulebritania wrote:£15 later I was informed the pedals are fine the new braket was not greased and was rubbing metal on metal...
then you say...Rulebritania wrote:firstly they did grease the bracket (I never said they didn't, they highlighted it was dry).
so the Cytech guy says that it is the NEW bottom bracket that has not been greased, they grease it, but still the problem exists....?
Halfords then change half the bike, yet you still complain about the service from Halfords?
I'm obviously confused as to what you wanted Halfords to do? They changed the bottom bracket for new, so theres a good chance that that was not the problem second time around and probably the first also. The Cytech guy greased the BB, yet still the problem existed, so he was wrong also? Then Halfords change half the bike, refund your £15 Cytech fee and the problem is sorted (at their cost)? Yet you still think that it is poor service....0 -

It's amazing isn't it? Most here would never recommend Halfords for anything bike related, and yet your thread about how rubbish they are actually makes them look like really good guys. I reckon you're just one of those people that isn't happy if there's nothing to whinge about...English Cycles V3 | Cervelo P5 | Cervelo T4 | Trek Domane Koppenberg0

+1
The only thing that it sounds like complaining about is the Cytech guy that clearly couldn't spot the problem, so fobbed the OP off with some bull about grease, because he knew it was a Halfords bike.0 -

The only part you earmarked as 'good' was the free bottom bracket. Everything else was under 'bad' and 'ugly'.
