9sp crank arms with 10sp rings?

I was about to take the single ring bolts off my 9sp deore cranks so that I could use them on my M552 10 speed cranks to do away with the big ring (using XX front mech.)

Is there any reason why I can't just fit the 10sp rings to the 9sp Deore arms? Or is the spacing different between 9sp and 10sp?

    After stripping them and weighing them, turns out they are exactly the same apart from the deore having a metallic finish and the M552 having a matt finish. Done it anyway, as shinier is obviously betterer.
