Hi All,
Sorry to be such a noob but here goes anyway.
I have a 2013 Moda Stretto and Im trying to replace the Crankset on it to a Quarq else PM. I bought the BB30 type after doing a bit of googling and finding a site that advised my bike has a PF BB30. Left it at that.

Now however it has arrived and Im having no end of troubles. Finally managed to get the old crank off and much to my dismay its nothing like the new one in the box. So much for reverse engineering the new one and the old one and figuring it out.

Trouble is my Bearings and the old crank have a 23mm hole and the new crank does not. So Im here to ask for some advice on what I can do to get this all sorted and working.

Some Pics below, I can see that Im going to need a new set of bearings but does anybody recognize and can point out what I need to compatibilise everything? Thanks in advance.

  • Ok So I think its a PF30 to GXP adapter because Moda wanted to use SRAM gear.

Something like this http://www.bdopcycling.com/First-Bottom%20Brackets.asp Titled PRESSFIT30 to SRAM GXP.

Does anyone think this is a correct guess and maybe now how to remove this adapter?

    Pleeeease help. :?
  • So just incase someone stumbles across this in their own endevaours, The BB on the Moda Stretto 2013 is a PF30 hole but is an to an external cup GXP size for the Barelli Crank set.

See the following description from Quarq Site
"SRAM's Giga-X-Pipe 'GXP' bottom bracket uses external cups but the bearings taper from 24mm on the drive side to 22mm on the non-drive side."

So AFAIK the better option here would have been a GXP crank. Never the less knock out the old Bottom Bracket. Pickup a new PF30 BB30 Size bottom bracket. This is the one I got from LBS

Then Squeeze that in place of the old BB. Slip the new Crank arm in and use the spacers included to get the Crank sitting like the old one did.

    Tools required
    Hammer
Socket set for the long poles and different cups.
1 Long Bolt, 8 Washers, 2 Nuts, 2 rubber pads to make sure you dont damage the new BB.
    Hex Wrenches of course

**Warning** not using the correct tool to remove the old BB will result in damage(Depending on stress levels). But the BB is about £20 to replace on ebay... the tool is alot more.

    Great post
I was about to make the exact same mistake so you have saved me a lot of pain. So thanks for that.
You also don’t happen to know anyone who supplies a rear hanger for this model of Stretto?
