I'm trying to get a Shimano cassette off but it sems so tight the chain whip slips, as the cassette is toast im not too worried about damaging it, but wheel and free hub I need to keep.

What torque should it be?

Having a bad bike week!! :(

No torque. Make sure the chainwhip is round the top cog with as much chain as possible in contact with teeth.

WD40 and sharp whack with big hammer, I know your all horified but sometimes needs must
  • when re-fitting i'm sure it says 40nm on the lockring
  • Thanks

The Shimano blurb says between 30 - 50 Nm, so 40 sounds good

    Cheers
