All 29ers at this price are poor, lowly parts and really nasty undamped forks.0

looks nice is there any vouhers codes about tiny bit over budget.0

I would check out the sales on 2013 bikes and try to save a bit more. At your price range each extra £100 makes a noticeable difference. Does does depend if you will be taking the bike off road a lot or not.0

I wouldn't bother at that price...0

Stick with 26" wheels, or keep saving a while longer then (maybe for a Voodoo Bizango?).
Any specific reason it has to be a 29er? Have you tried one yet? Their biggest advantage (along with the way they keep rolling along well once you've got those big wheels spinning) is their increased rollover ability in rocky, rooty conditions - based on the type of riding you were doing previously, would you really be using that advantage, or would you be better off putting your money into a better specced 26er?0 -
Based on the riding he was doing previously, a 29er would arguably be more efficient.0

Aye, the big wheels would roll along very nicely on the type of terrain he was riding on, but he'd not be getting any of their monster truck rollover ability. To my mind, unless he can up his budget, he'd be better off buying a better specced 26er. I reckon that way he'd be in a better position if he does want to start riding more gnarly terrain than he would on a 29er with a v low budget fork. Depends what he wants to do with the bike really - for the type of paths he was riding before he'd be fine on a hybrid, even.0 -

Well, given that the Rockrider 5.3 26" gets reasonable ratings around here, and the 29er version of the same bike has mostly the same components, wouldn't that fit the bill?
