Winter Hack

I'm looking at getting a winter hack once the sales and end of season stuff starts.
Its going to be a cheap roller but im totally unshure as to what direction to go. (nice to look at/ pull more on the heart or slightly better spec / more the brian)
First was the MEKK Pinerolo AL ZR for £439. - It is a mix of 2013 sora and Claris with partial internal routing and those bomb proof Shimano 500's. Has rack and mud mounts. Geometry is more race-like. The MEKK Pinerolo line has had excellent reviews, and I have a higher end MEKK already which has proven to be one of the the best bikes I have owned - quite literally.

Then theres the Triban 5 for £429. - Its full sora but its a triple. Couple g's lighter than the MEKK but has quite relaxed geometry and has mud guard mounts too. A bit boring looking compared to the MEKK. No part internal routing or nice finishes like colored cable ends etc but my serious side knows its the slightly better spec for a tad less.

so far thats it... don't want to spend any more than £450 and those are the best I have found.

What sort of riding is it for? You could think about a 'cross bike (£££) or a single speed (same sort of price that you're quoting). Also look for something that will take wider tyres (28s or more).0

Its just a trainer. In winter I like to do shorter more intensive runs. Not many long sportives (might use my normal bike for those nice dry winter day runs) Thats why the MEKK geometry suits more but the Triban seems the better "value".
Basically its going to be a heavy trainer to thrash around in the rain.
I originally had a budget of ver £600 - but you can go on for ever and thats why I want something quick and cheap.0
