edited August 2013 in Commuting chat
Get bike to cycle to work, check tyres and decide to top up air pressure - mistake number 1 - valve damaged, need to change tyre delaying me setting off.

Get out of house - to find its thick fog and have to go back into get my bike lights (FFS, its August)

Eventually get on road only to have suicidal pedestrian step out infront of me 2 miles into 13 mile ride. Pull brakes only to have front brake cable snap ( relatively new cable as well!). Cycle remaining 11 miles without any front brake

I love days like today

What was it with the Mist/fog this morning?

I spent the whole 14.5 miles of my commute listening to my front brake grind. and with no way of being able to change the pads due to a sheered bolt (awaiting a new caliper)

    Suckety suck suck

On the plus side, at least the full extent of your forearm power awesome has been conclusively proven.

    Well, it gets better

Lunchtime I go to Cyclesurgery @ Holborn - they do not have the inner brake cable in stock, but can sell me a set of 2 inner and 2 outer cables etc at 4 times the cost of the inner cable alone.

so I go to Evans nearby, they have cable in stock, but all the staff are on the various telephones and no one is serving customers with cash in their hand stood at the tills.

So, its a careful ride home and a visit to a LBS who deserve my £s more than those 2 chains.
