Ok so the I caught the upgrade bug bad this time round and after only just getting a Reverb a month ago, I've now gone and splashed out on a new set of forks....
It may not have been a 100% necessary upgrade as the Lyriks were fine but since having ridden them, I can already feel the benefits...of the Pikes
They're stupidly light considering the type of fork they are!
On the Mega
And after the first ride
Only one ride in but i'm super happy with them so far. As I went from an 'R' model to the 'RCT3' the most obvious difference is having compression damping. I'll be playing with the air pressure, LSC, and token system for a few rides to find what's right for me. It's certainly nice to have the adjustability available, and nicely in time for our BPW trip at the end of July.0 -
That looks pretty mean! Good work. Pike's look great on that frame"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

Yeah, nice looking bike but the white seems way out of place :S
Not as up to date on parts as the rest of you guys but the spec looks good, nice forks . Nice seatpost as well, jelly! lol0 -

Yea this has been the plan since the start of the build but I always found something else to upgrade first! As you'd expect I'm a little spent out on it at the moment but I will most likely be going for some black ones in the near future. Carbon maybe? :P0 -

Very wise mate, always best to upgrade essential parts first and there's nothing wrong with your Funn bars. Carbon would be sweet, but expensive!Current:

Its been over 6 months so time for an update.
Only a few changes since the last time but I've dropped the chain device and gone with a Raceface Narrow Wide, which I'm very impressed with. Not even a hint of dropping the chain when combined with the Zee mech.
Also just this week I fitted a set of 785mm Funn Kratos bars to get the stealth look along with wanting slightly more width on the front. Seems like my perfect width now after trying a few different sizes.
Lastly, I'm now running a Hans Dampf on the front wheel. Wanted something with a little extra width and grip over the Minion DHF I had before. I currently have it tubeless with a 'Ghettoish' setup. I used Gorilla tape to seal the rim bed, cut a presta valve out of an old tube, and some Stan's sealant. So far so good, the tyre went on super, super easily and it's held its pressure for the last month with no problems.
Here's a pic from this weeks trip to Stile Cop.

So after a bunch of rides at Stile Cop, and doing a bit of online research, I realised I would benefit from having a coil for the Mega when I ride DH focused trails. Having the option to switch between the Monarch and a coil makes it a true do it all bike and began the search for a coil shock with compression damping.
After a month or so of scouring every website I could think of, I finally found a coil shock in the correct size for the Mega. I managed to bag an Ex-Demo 2014 Van RC from Mojo for a bargain price with the bushing kits and Spring included. It arrived yesterday and I can honestly say I don't think it's even touched a bike frame let alone being ex-demo. I went to put it on the bike only to find that the top mount kit was a little too wide so I've got the correct one in the post. So for the time being just pics of the shock and hopefully over the next few days, some pics of it on the bike and first impressions.
I'm very excited to see how the bike rides and can't wait to give it a decent thrashing on some techy trails.
Stay tuned for some bike pics!0 -
The correct bushing kit arrived today free of charge courtesy of Mojo. So I fitted the shock and gave it a quick ride up and down the road. Initial impressions are very good! It seems to take so little effort to start moving the bike through it's travel. I've just got to setup the sag and find the right settings for me as it's my first coil shock and will have to do a bit of tinkering to get it right.
As promised, photos of the shock on the bike:
