Enigma echo Ti. Electronic or not

I'm off to get sized for an Enigma Echo, it's been on my list of bikes for ages.
I am wondering if going electronic is worth the extra cash?
I have never ridden an electronic groupset but I am also only interested in sportives, racing is long, long behind my body's ability, training rides and local loops for fitness etc.
I am considering Dura ace Di2 or plain old mechanical Dura Ace or perhaps ultegra.
Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated :D:D:D

  • I'm thinking exactly the same thing!! Going for 11 speed Ultegra Di2 when its released. I think.
Have you spoke to Jim at Enigma?

    Not!

It would be like putting 21-inch alloys on an E-type...ugly, unnecessary, and out of character with the ethos of the machine. Put a good-quality mechanical groupset on it (ideally Chorus, or above, but Shimano if you must) and spend the change on a trip to the Alps.

i personally wouldnt have electronic, my echo is a lowly 105 set but would have had ultegra if i could, if you have the money dura-ace. hope your getting some sexy rims if your spending this much!

This has helped, I think Dura ace or Ultegra, depends on going for the full mirror polish or not.
I just fell in love with this bike.
Wheels will be custom for my lardy ar@e until I shed the rest of my unwanted girth. :D

My view would be try riding a bike with electronic shifting before you make a final decision. I'm sure you will instantly love it, I did and would not change back to a mechanical groupset now.
Try before you buy it always makes sense.

Well rest assured that there's no difference in performance between 105 Vs Ultegra. I spec'd Ultegra on mine and wish that I'd stuck with 105 and spent the money elsewhere.

  • I've been looking on the Enigma Facebook page, some lovely builds and they do a fair job of hiding the Di2 cables, but it still spoils the appearance of the frame IMHO, so its Dura Ace 9000 for me. The Echo they have built upi for someone with DA looks stunning.
Its a bike I'm going to keep, I like faffing with gear indexing and if anything goes wrong I cant sort, I can take it to my LBS and not have it on Diagnostic machine looking at software issues.

  • I have the misfortune of working opposite Enigma and having to look at all the lovely bikes each day, without being able to own one at the moment....

I have ridden the Equinox with Campagnolo Record groupset though. Beautiful.
As you say DB100 - all the Enigma staff are great, with a real love of their products and cycling in general.

Did you take the Echo out for a test ride, if so, how did you find it? I'm going down there week after next, I can see a deposit being put down if I like what I see/ride! The Echo seems to fit the bill for all day comfort but with a bit of zip to it as well.

It's sometimes easy to wax lyrical and follow all the hype.
I will give an honest appraisal.
The bike I test rode Echo 55, had a narrower bar than I would have liked, that said the bike handled superbly.
I am a big guy, 17st, I stamped on the pedals going uphill and could not feel any undue flex in the Frame.
This was my first ride on a Ti bike, it was just superb, it just felt so comfortable with no road buzz it was a lovely ride.
I had no hesitation in placing my order. They are beautiful to look at, light and classic looking.
The guys at Enigma are just a great bunch who really know their stuff.
They were incredibly helpful and showed me around the factory. Just class.
Let me know how you get on
