SR quill stem

hi guys
I want to put shorter stem on my road bike but don,t know the clamp size, every SR quill stems i have looked at says clamp is 25.4mm yet a lot of forums say road bikes are mostly 26 mm clamp as the one on my bike now is a SR stem should i go for 25.4 stem cheers steve :?:

    I think that being Italian, Cinelli stems were a round 26mm (and perhaps 3T as well) and SR were 25.4 (or 1").

    Road bars were typically 26.0mm diameter or the old Cinelli standard of 26.4mm whereas MTB used 25.4mm. Some Japanese producers made 25.4mm road bars, but these weren't too common. Simple answer is to measure your handlebars.
    Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
