Hello,

this mught be a buying question - but hopefully can be covered in tech.

I'm trying to update my MTB forks - got the travel all worked out. Can't figure out if i need 9mm or 15mm between the forks. It's a little confusing. I'm erring on 9mm but just wanted to check.

This might seem obvious but shopping for forks is complex!

Link to picture attached and these are my current forks - don't want to change wheels or hubs.

Can anyone advise?

  • I think you are getting confused with the axle standards. It looks like your current forks are a 9mm quick release, this is not the distance between the legs but the thickness of the axle. A 15 mm axle bolts through the legs rather than being attached with a skewer. So unless your front hub can take axle adaptors you will need a 9mm QR fork.

The 9mm refers to the drop outs, which you have been careful to conceal in your pictures.
    Probably 9mm QR.
If you use normal QR skewers, it's 9mm. If you have a Maxle or something it isn't.
