Need to replace the standard 36t ring and once that's done the bashguard will be kinda oversized.

Anything good, strong, lightish, reasonably priced etc I should be looking at?

Will there be a blog to follow up after what you've bought :p

Why not give the raceface narrow wide chainring a go?

Lightweight, polycarbonate to abosrb bumps, or HD alloy?

polycarbonate I reckon. The Saint ones seem overkill to me

I liked my Middleburn Hardcoat rings when I ran a double, they lasted just as long as Deore rings IME but were lighter being alloy (also twice the price though).

For a bash I'd be looking at the E Thirteen Turbocharger, opinions are very divided on the looks of it though, some hate it, some love it. I'm using them on both my Rocky and Marin and they've taken some pretty decent knocks with barely a scratch so they are strong while still fairly light. IIRC the standard Saint bash is pretty hefty but doesn't seem to be any stronger, there's bigger gouges out of my old Saint one than out of my E Thirteens which have taken more knocks.

    Good stuff. Thanks

(those Hardcoat rings are indeed pretty pricey)
