Suntour XCM remote lockout

My Suntour fork has a remote lockout, which seemed like a decent idea, until today on the bikes second ride, when the thread in the bar mount stripped and left the remote dangling.

I've bodged it back on with cable ties so at least it will stay put. I'll take it to the LBS to see what they think, but can I just get rid of the remote completely and just switch it at the fork top?

It's already made my mind up that if/when the fork is upgraded, it will NOT have a remote.

I'm not sure how the Suntour one works but if it's like the Rock Shox, the damper is spring loaded and the if you take the remote off it will stay unlocked unless you ride along holding the top of the fork in the locked out position.

Tempted to remove it then, it's not like I'll be riding it on the road a lot.
