Scottish Governments "Nice Way Code"

Sorry if it's been mentioned before, but have you seen http://nicewaycode.com/ ?
This is in my view a rather misguided campaign by the Scottish Government. Whilst it's nice to see money being spent, asking motorists to treat cyclists like horses doesn't seem the best way. Have a look at the series of slides half way down the page and the nearby link to the TV ads.
Can't help but think this is childish and the money could have been better used. Wonder if any cyclists were consulted about the making of this campaign?

From what i've heard on this already, it's seems to involve laying out a load of extra rules for cyclist, stuff that would usually involve some common sense, like not going down the LH side of buses/HGVs.
Like this:
Now that's not always true, it depends entirely upon the road and what the vehicle is doing, you don't go overtaking a bus that's turning right for example.
A good cyclist is going to end up breaking what motorists will see as being set in stone cycling rules, the result will be even more drivers abusing "law breaking" cyclists.
The space on the back of that bus, would be far better used to display "ROAD TAX DOES NOT EXIST!!!"
It just seems to re-enforce the idea that cyclists are always to blame.0 -
I read somewhere (Pedal on Parliament?) that the right arrow on the back of the bus originally said "Overtake this side" or similar but was changed to "If you must" as they didn't want to encourage cyclists to overtake.
Although well intentioned this is 500k I'd rather was spent in schools or such educating the cyclists of the future.http://www.strathspey.co.uk - Quality Binoculars at a Sensible Price.

Have seen this on a few buses now. I suppose that if it helps some people realise that squeezing up the inside of a large vehicle is a bad idea then it is achieving something.
What I would like is more bus driver training to stop them overtaking you then immediately pulling up in front of you at a bus stop... As with a lot of other drivers, there seems to be an inability to assess a riders speed and instead assume that we are all slow0 -
Maybe the bus drivers need to go on a day long cycling course?http://www.strathspey.co.uk - Quality Binoculars at a Sensible Price.

Seems helpful for new cyclists to get a few pointers, possibly more info reminding drivers of their responsibilities towards other road users would be helpful also0
