Random people on Strava

I rode to work yesterday, uploaded it on Strava as normal. Pretty standard ride, couple of PRs but no KOMs.

When I got home I had an email saying someone had given me kudos for the ride. I don't know the guy, he's not following anybody I know and he lives 100+ miles away from me.

I thought maybe he'd joined a group that I had joined, but he hasn't.

How's this guy found my ride?

My mate has this, gets kudos for every commute, don't know why he doesn't block him!

But maybe in this case you took his KOM?

is there a SCR/BR Strava Group.

I only follow willyb, and that is cos he is mental and rides alot of my commute... dont give him kudos though. He probably thinks I am random.

Nope, no KOMs on this ride. I don't even think the guy has ridden around here before.

I gave kudos to someone accidentally when I was looking at one of their rides. Clicked the link thinking it would show who gave them kudos for a ride but instead it gave kudos.

So some random person that's got QOM on a segment of mine is in a similar to the OP wondering why I've given kudos

Send them a message ask for pic then post it on here. Might be worth a laugh.

I remember doing something similar looking at a friend's ride. No idea who this other bloke on the ride was when i accidentally kudos him. He started following my profile afterwards though he has not yet kudos me on anything.

I have had a few totally randomd follow me, could be that they are in Bikeradar / SCR groups but some seem way more obscure. A couple of people have followed me then sent comments explaining why - that is nice, shows good manners!

One of the guys who came out for the TdF Alps had similar but the guy who gave him Kudos was also commenting on his rides with motivational messages "Great ride mate keep up the hard work". He had no idea who the bloke was but actually quite liked the added motivation

I keep getting randoms trying to follow me. As my rides are private, I'm unlikely to be on many leaderboards in Brighton, Bath or other random places, I have no idea how these people find me.

I do follow some people random that seem to ride a lot or fast. Just to compare their rides with mine.

Making your ride private will only hide it from others to see, you will be on every single (not private) segments that you pass.

I like giving out kudos, they are like free money that you can give away and never run out of them!

I love the way that just because I don't drink, practicing a few martial arts and might see you this friday makes you soooo polite. :D

I like to think I'm usually polite, although I was probably rather drunk the last time we met so can't be certain.

This! It's bad design on the part of Strava. I've done it myself and know other who have done the same. A link that just says "kudos" implies "view kudos" not "give kudos". They have many problems with their user interface. Has anyone ever tried to Strava for running!?!!?!? It's awful.

I have a Stralker (d'ya see what I did there?) from France who found me because he liked my guitar playing!!! He gives me loads of Kudos, which is quite embarrassing as he rides up and down the Alps almost everyday. Still, it does make me feel good and I have followed his example and I look for any excuse to give my friends kudos.

This morning I gave someone who I don't know kudos for beating one of my KOMs. Someone did it to me once, so now I make sure I congratulate people who beat me. Thought about following him, but I don't want to be a Stralker.
