Making sure bike is correctly assembled

Hello all,
Just bought my first road bike from a online retailer and am expecting delivery any day now, seeking advice on what too look for bike arrives in regards to making sure it is correctly assembled and in perfect working order.
Apart from making sure the gears, brakes are working etc. and there is no actually physical damage to the bike, what else should I be checking?
