Tapered fork
I have a frame with a 1 1/8 to 1 1/2 tapered head tube which needs new forks.
Does this mean I have to buy a tapered fork, or am I able to use a 1 1/8 fork with some kind of adapted headset?
Finding it hard to source tapered forks!
Sorry if this is a stupid question but I have no idea!
Thanks

enve, 3t and others do tapered forks
fsa do a reducer to fit non-tapered headset to tapered headtube - whether it/similar devices will work depends on what type of headset your frame uses - probably other options toomy bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny0 -
Thanks sungod reading other forums i think it is possible using a reducer to make the bottom 1 1/8 and then I can use a regular 1 1/8 fork. It might just look a little different though when built but seen loads of mtb examples.
Not keen on spending loads on a tapered fork as the frame was v cheap and looking for a cheap build.
Bump for any more thoughts?Yes, I like riding in the rain...0 -
A lot of the Chinese frames use a tapered fork so that may be a cheap source of fork. They are generally unbranded and you can get them in black. Google FM015 fork. If you can find one in the UK they'd be reasonable, but shipping from China could be time-consuming and expensive to post.
I had FM015 forks on my racing bike which survived a nasty crash but killed the frame.0 -
If you're going down the 1 1/8th road then Planet X have a good deal on 3T Funda Pro forks just now.
