careful pina, the pro says its bollox so it must be! all these farmers and gamekeepers, foresters, wildlife park keepers (indeed ellis dawe who kept pumas in his wildlife park saw them so would probably know what hes looking at) and the like are completely unfamiliar with native british wildlife, so are clearly mistaking sheep, badgers, kerry katonas, hedgepigs, questing beasts, stan collymores, muntjacs for big cats!
its often said for an admitted sighting (for any sort of 'cryptozoological or other fortean event) there are many more who don't report it for whatever reason, be it due to ridicule by supposed condescending pros, not being bothered etc. so that 2000 figure is likely to be somewhat underneath the true figure.0 -

I would like to point out that Collymore was strictly dogging, no connection to cats.0 -

interestingly there is apparently a werewolf at cannock chase that frequents the german cemetery. now even i think thats bollox, but still it would put me off being in a car park there at night, or wandering around in the bushes with my old fella hanging out.
collymores a brave man.0 -

collymores a brave man.
I think a werewolf clamps his chops around your neck, not your todger. But Collymore lives in hope.0 -
Had an encounter of types 5 years ago, caught a large cat on camera though the distance meant it was a bit grainy etc. Also got some video which proved more useful.
By using the markings on telephone poles which are apparantly uniform the Big Cat folk were sure it wasnt a domestic cat. After much tooing and frowing some Dr of Zoology was convinced it was the first recorded evidence of a Black strain of the Scottish wildcat.
After thinking of the hastle it would bring to local folk, the likely intrusion to the animal and everyone I know thinking I was some kind of nut I didnt pursue it any further.
Had another look at the clip after reading this thread and it still does look bigger than the average cat. Mind you Maine coon cats are also huuuge.0 -
So far there is only one side of the story being cogently argued. Come on believers! Must do better.0

I would be more inclined to believe all these supposed sightings if even one of them provided a photo, a film or a corpse yet strangely none ever do. If there are actually even many more than 2000 sightings a year the fact there is no hard evidence makes the whole idea even more preposterous. Amongst all those sightings you're trying to say not one of them had a decent camera and got some photos or killed one either in a trap or on a road and not one of them wanted to publicise it? Even that is assuming there were not more obvious signs like numerous killed livestock. Puma or leopards would kill sheep, they are slow and plentiful. No farmer is going to cover up loss of livestock, they usual make a lot of noise about attacks due to them normally being done by dogs.0 -
As a New Forest resident, there is of course quite a few stories that have done the rounds in the area. However the most intriguing one I heard was actually from a Ringwood resident I got talking to a couple of years back. There is an area just outside the town called Crow Hill (good climb BTW). This local tells me that he has seen quite frequently an American Wildcat. This I understand is not a big cat, but more Lynx sized, which are known to have been seen and shot in the UK.
On another note. Over 25 years ago Mrs MR GOO and I were out in one of the forest enclosures for a walk, along many trails through the trees. We turned around to head back to car and a couple hundred yards away stood on the track were a couple of 'wolf' like dogs. They turned and 'loped off' just like wolves, and disappeared into the trees. We don't know what they really were. Needless to say we walked back the long way. Quickly.Always be yourself, unless you can be Aaron Rodgers....Then always be Aaron Rodgers.0 -
