How do you tighten brakes?
The issue I have mainly on the front brakes.
The left pad rubs against the wheel all the time.
I can move the whole caliper so it doesn't rub. But this only works for a short time.
How can I tighten it so it does not rub.

adjust the centering (usually a screw on the caliper)

if the caliper still rotates, the cable outer may be the wrong length thus causing it to push/pull the calipers off centre

Is the caliper flopping about? It should take some effort to twist it. If it freely rotates, turn the bars ninety degrees to the frame, get an allen key and insert into the hole in the back of the forks. Give it a slight tighten. Dont swing on it ,just a pinch. If you have carbon forks use a torque wrench set to the makers instructions.

What type of brakes? V brakes, calipers, dual pivot, single pivot or cantilever?
  • Oh my god what type of brakes? Carrera tdf stock brakes. Tried tightening from the rear of the forks. Doesn't seem to do much. Feels tight already.

They are callipers and probably Tektro Alloy dual pivot. What Weedy said should fix it. If you struggle here is a link to the manual for the brakes, or at least some brakes which should be very similar. http://www.tektro.com/_english/03_suppo ... 149946.pdf
