I have just got the new ultegra 11 speed groupset for a bike I am building and pretty quickly realised that the cassette block wont fit on my older RS80 ultegra 10 speed wheel. Is this a matter of swapping the freehub body for a more recent one or is it a new wheel?

10 speed Shinao freewheels are not supposed to be compatible with 11 speed, hence you will in theory need a new rear wheel

The 6800 hubs use an oversize axle and different size bearings, so while the 6800 freehub body might fit on your old wheel the axle probably wouldn't turn too well. IMHO you're going to need a new hub or wheel.

I can only speak for the 6700 vs 6800 hubs.
As above, different size axle, the new Ultegra hubs are designed to resemble the DA 9000 and not the 105 as they were previously.

or source a Campag 9/10/11 free hub and use a campag 11 speed cassette. the spacing is identical, on my da9000 a campag chorus 11 cassette works perfectly, no change to limit screws or barrel adjuster.

^ That's very interesting. Do you see any reason why a Shimano 11 speed wheel wouldn't work with Campag 11 Ergo levers and derailleurs? (I have a slightly odd use, and it'd be better if I could mix brands this way.)
