Hello,

Following a bike fitting session yesterday I am on the lookout for a 150mm stem. Can anyone suggest where I might find such a thing, 140mm seems to be the maximum available length from the usual suspects.

I see that Deda make the Newton 31 in this length but no where seems to actually stock it.

Cheers

Ben

    Wow, never seen 150.

Are you sure you have the right size frame?!

    Hi Ben,

If you need a 150 mm stem, you either have a very small frame or extraordinarily long arms. Which is it? Post a photo for us!

Googled for this, found some discussions inc. the WW site : Pro Vibe 140mm stem I believe measures close to 150mm in reality.

Could try a 140mm stem and, if necessary, since 150mm stems are hard to source, try bars with a longer reach ?
Ritchey and 3T amongst others also do 140mm stems

Also, you don't mention what kind of rise/fall you want from the stem, which is kind of important too.....

Get a 140mm stem and a set of Zipp Service Course or a similar long reach bar.

A year later. I hope you don't mind my asking...

I see the Onza stem that Crimmey (who is fast!) is/was using, is a "trial bike" stem usually used as a riser on bikes like these
    http://www.onza.com/bikes/
I have a frame that is too small for me, blah blah, or for whatever reason, and I want to get down lower a bit like this
    http://youtu.be/cz-VlJjqQhY?t=5mo0s
so I have just ordered a trial bike stem of about the same size, and I think angle: 150mm 30 degrees and I am planning
to use it to lower my position. Since my head post is angled back at 72 degrees, it will only result in a 12 degree drop rather than the -45 degree or so drop in the above video.

Are there any problems with using trial bike stems to lower road bike handlebars in this way?

It seem that the angle of the stem is such that it presents an oval outline at the headset and trial bike stems have different shaped sloping top caps. I don't know where to get a sloping top cap, yet.

    Edit
I bought a trial bike stem and made a sloping spacer by grinding a 2.5cm carbon spacer and grinding the large aluminium cone on my other bike.

I now have these 150mm stems on both my road bikes. I really like them. I don't find that there is a steering issue though I am not sure about downhill. I am a bit of a coward when it comes to downhill, generally not going much faster than 45kmh to 50kmh. I also found that having a long stem increases the flex in my forks and I find this to be a good thing. The bottom of my drops are almost level with the tops of my front wheels. Others do not seem to approve (on roadbikeforums for instance) but I would recommend this set up to anyone.
  • Hi:

I bought one, but maybe it is too late for your question. From 3T, 150mm minus 17 degree. Trouble was I thought my body require 56 cm frame turns out if I trained properly I would fit perfectly and comfortably in a 59cm frame. Anyway, at this moment it is not used due to my current bike is my size or closest possible at 57.5cm.

I got mine from a seller like this (which needs an angled spacer)

I see there are a few 150mm on ebay too
