Hello all, I'm new here and relatively new to mountain biking. Having just moved house it's gonna be easier, more cost effective and much better for my health to cycle down the local bridle path to work rather than bus it, but I've not owned a bike for the last 5 years (my last one being a 2007 Specialised Enduro Elite) so I'm well and truly out of the loop. I have been looking at a 2011 Rockhopper SL for £300 but not sure if its a good deal. Also the bike will be used for the odd weekend through a forest trail. Could I do better for £350, bearing in mind I'm probably gonna upgrade some bits on the Rockhopper if I buy it.

Cheers in advance.

I presume the 'hopper is used rather than old stock?

If it's in excellent (and I mean excellent) condition it's a good buy, you won't get better from latest models for that.

Yup it's used but it really is in mint condition with just one light scratch on the forks from storage.
I actually just missed out on a 2012 model for £320 last night.

I seem to recall the 2011 is better specced than 2012, but if it's as good as you say, then it's a better buy than anything new for the same cash.

so long as the scratch on the fork is on the lowers not the (silver) stanchions?

Aye it's not the stanchions that's scratched, just the fork leg.
